Reading Time: Four minutes
As dedicated lash technicians, we want our clients to leave feeling beautiful. But most importantly, we prioritize the health of their natural lashes.
It’s really important that you know how to safely remove eyelash extensions. Removing them in the correct way will protect the natural eyelashes and prevent damage. Whether you're a seasoned lash artist or newer to the game, there's always room to refine your technique.
Here’s your go-to guide on how to remove lash extensions the right way, keeping those natural lashes healthy, strong, and ready for their next set.
Why Lashes Should Be Removed Professionally
You may have clients who are tempted to remove their extensions at home using various DIY methods. It's essential to stress the importance of having their lashes removed by a professional. Attempting to remove extensions at home can damage natural eyelashes and even cause infection or injury.
Professional lash extension removers are specifically formulated to safely dissolve adhesive bonds without causing harm to natural lashes. And as lash techs, we are trained in proper removal techniques so that the process is done correctly and with minimal discomfort to our client.
Reasons for Removing Eyelash Extensions
There are a few reasons why a client may want or need their lash extensions removed:
- Improper application: If lash extensions have been improperly applied, they can damage the natural lashes, so they should be removed to prevent further issues.
- Client’s request: Sometimes, a client may change their mind about lash extensions or wish to take a break.
- Allergic reaction: On rare occasions, clients may be allergic to the lash glue used during the application. In such instances, removing the extensions will alleviate discomfort.
- Changing styles: Clients looking to update their look or switch to a different style or volume will require the existing ones to be safely removed before applying a new set.
Products You Need for Eyelash Extension Removal
Before you begin the lash removal process, make sure you have all the necessary tools and supplies:
At Lashin' Out, we offer two different types of eyelash extension removers:
- Cherry Jelly Lash Remover: A gel remover that quickly dissolves eyelash glue for easy and painless removal. It has a gentle cherry scent and a jelly-like consistency that stays put on the lashes without entering the eyes. 🍒
- Cream Lash Extension Remover: A fast-acting cream remover specially formulated to gently break down adhesive, making it easy and pain-free to remove lash extensions. The remover has a mild odour and stays on the lashes without entering your client's eyes.
Step-by-Step Guide for Safe Lash Extension Removal
Follow these steps to ensure a safe and effective lash extension removal process:
- Have your client lie down comfortably with their eyes closed—place gel pads over their lower lashes to protect them during removal.
- Use a microbrush or flocked applicator to apply a small amount of eyelash extension remover onto the base of the lash extensions. Allow the product to sit on the extensions for 5-10 minutes.
- Once the product has dissolved the glue, gently slide the extensions off with a microbrush or flocked applicator. Repeat until you have removed all the extensions and lash adhesive from the natural lashes.
- Cleanse the lashes with Lash Suds to remove any remaining residue from the remover and adhesive.
