Busting 5 Lash Extension Myths

Reading time: Four minutes.

If you're considering getting eyelash extensions, you've probably heard some myths and misconceptions about them.

As lash artists, we've heard it all!

These common lash extension myths not only misinform people but may also discourage you from trying out this life-changing beauty treatment!

In this blog post, we'll debunk 5 common myths about lash extensions so you can make an informed decision and enjoy your new lashes without any worries.

It's a myth giphy

1. Will Eyelash Extensions Ruin My Natural Lashes?

"Don't get lash extensions, they will ruin your natural lashes!" This is one of the most common myths people believe about getting eyelash extensions.

When properly applied by a trained and experienced lash technician, eyelash extensions will not ruin your natural lashes. In fact, they promote healthy lash growth and give your natural lashes a break from daily mascara use.

Lash extensions are applied individually to each natural lash, allowing your lashes to continue their natural growth cycle.

Find a lash technician you can trust. Do your research and find one who uses high-quality products and techniques that prioritize the health and safety of your natural lashes.

2. Can You Swim With Lash Extensions?

"You can't get your lashes wet with eyelash extensions!" Many people are still spreading this myth about lash extensions.

The truth is, you CAN get your lashes wet and even swim with them! Just be sure to give your lashes a lash bath after swimming to get rid of chlorine or salt water and to help maintain the retention of your lash extensions.

If you have a lash artist telling you not to get your lashes wet, run! 🏃‍♀️ You should be washing your lashes daily to keep them clean and healthy. Clean lashes last longer. 🫧

In case you're wondering, here's how to wash your lashes:

  1. Place one pump of our Lash Suds onto the back of your hand or directly onto your eyelid. Use a makeup brush or spoolie along your eyelid to ensure a thorough clean.
  2. Rinse with lukewarm water, gently pat dry, and avoid rubbing or pulling on your lashes.
  3. Fluff your lashes with your spoolie.

3. Can I Wear Makeup With Eyelash Extensions?

Some people believe that wearing makeup with lash extensions is a big no-no. However, this is not entirely true. While you should avoid waterproof makeup, you can still wear non-waterproof makeup and even eyeliner with your lash extensions.

Just make sure to properly remove all your makeup to prevent any buildup or damage to your lash extensions. Remember? Clean lashes last longer! 🫧

You might be tempted to use a little mascara in between fills, but mascara can cause your lashes to clump together and fall out sooner than expected. Instead, try our Lash 911 Kit to fill gaps easily. Watch here to see how they work!

4. Are Lash Extensions Painful?

"Lash extensions hurt." Chances are, if someone is telling you this, they went to a lash tech that didn't do a good job.

When applied correctly, lash extensions should not be painful at all. Many people find getting lash extensions quite relaxing and even take a little lash nap during their appointments.

If you do experience any discomfort during your lash appointment, speak up! Your lash tech should adjust their technique or products to ensure your comfort and safety.

If you are experiencing pain from lash extensions, read our blog "Why Do My Lash Extensions Hurt?" to help troubleshoot some reasons this could happen.

5. Do I Need To Take a Break From Eyelash Extensions?

Another myth is that you need to periodically take breaks from getting eyelash extensions to allow your natural lashes to "breathe."

However, this is not typically necessary. Generally speaking, you never need to take a break from getting eyelash extensions. Properly placed eyelash extensions will not damage your natural lashes, so you can enjoy the benefits of beautiful, full lashes indefinitely!

Eyelash extensions, when applied correctly, grow out with our natural lashes and are replaced during a fill appointment with new extensions. Your natural growth cycle allows your natural lashes to remain healthy and continue to regenerate.

If your lash tech does notice something concerning that would warrant a break, follow their advice and instructions for the health of your eyes and lashes.
